The original nut measures a full 1 3/4" in width. The truss rod nut is somewhat recessed from the heel, still functioning as intended with various string gauges and tensions. The bass plays cleanly in all registers, and the neck is straight with a responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The Brazilian rosewood fretboard is extremely dark and tight-grained with clay dot inlay, retaining the original slender fretwire which shows only very light wear on the crowns of frets 1-5. The maple neck has a medium C-shaped profile carve with moderate shoulder at the nut, gaining more roundness and substance as you travel up the fretboard with lightly rolled fretboard edges in every register, measuring. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this 1963 Fender Precision Bass has an incredible feel, accurate intonation, and comfortable action. The bass balances well on a strap, weighing 8lbs 10oz. Currently strung with roundwound 45-105 strings, the split coil black bobbin pickup delivers plenty of fullness and woody thump with excellent treble articulation and a sweet, defined tonal character in every register. Tonewoods include an alder body with a maple neck and Brazilian rosewood fingerboard, delivering a rich, balanced natural acoustic sound. A rare custom color Pre-CBS example finished in Olympic White with a Desert Sand base coat, this Precision is an extremely expressive and soulful instrument.
